It is the need of the Modern
times, to involve the community, in day to day
policing and also to have more police - public
interaction. Hence with an objective to bring
policing down to the doorsteps of the police the
Kochi City police has launched a multifarious
programme to introduce the concept of Community
Policing on one hand and to promote traffic
education and awareness on the other with a sole
aim to bring policing down to the doorsteps of
the people. This programme has coupled all these
objectives, along with the role of the police in
traffic regulation and management and thus is a
continuous mass movement towards this object.
The programme aims to introduce various
community policing schemes like Traffic monitor
scheme, night watch scheme, Neighborhood Watch
Scheme, apart from conducting many programs to
educate the public about the police functioning.
The programme is also devised to educate the
public and various target groups such as
students, drivers, driving schools etc in
traffic rules and enforcement so that they
actively participate in decreasing the accident
rates. Under this package we have already
introduced schemes such as SUBHAYATRA, NAVODAYAM
etc.
As a part of this exercise we have built a
interface for the public, to know more about the
police and to put in their petitions,
complaints, information etc before the police
through our web site, which has proved to be a
major hit in the last two years with a host of
information and complaints being received
through this medium. We are thankful for the
support extended for this novel endeavor and we
hope that you will continue to actively assist
the police to build a crime free city of Kochi.
MANOJ ABRAHAM IPS
COMMISSIONER OF POLICE
KOCHI CITY.
